The IFAC Nominating Committee makes recommendations regarding the composition of IFAC boards and committees. It is guided by the principle of choosing the candidate with the best qualifications to fill these volunteer roles. The Nominating Committee's terms of reference further explains the committee's purpose and principles.
Purpose
The IFAC Nominating Committee makes recommendations to the IFAC Council regarding the composition of the IFAC Board and candidates for the office of Deputy President. The Nominating Committee recommends to the IFAC Board the appointment of chairs, deputy chairs, members and public members to IFAC boards and committees.

Oversight
The Public Interest Oversight Board (PIOB) approves the appointments to IFAC's Public Interest Activity Committees (PIACs), which are the International Accounting Education Standards Board, International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board, International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants, and the Compliance Advisory Panel. The PIOB also has the right to observe and speak at Nominating Committee meetings where PIAC appointments are made.

Activities
Each calendar year, the Nominating Committee issues a call for nominations for vacancies on IFAC boards and committees. Nominations may be submitted by member bodies and the Forum of Firms and, in instances where public members are sought for specific boards, members of the public may submit nominations. The Nominating Committee seeks a broad regional and professional representation as well as representations from countries with different levels of economic development.

Nominations Process
Transparency is fundamental to the Nominating Committee's processes. The following provides information on the nominations process and how to submit candidates.
- The Notice of Forthcoming Call for Nominations for IFAC Boards and Committees in 2010
The call for nominations is the official notification to IFAC member bodies, the Forum of Firms, and the general public. It outlines the qualifications, expectations and opportunities for membership of each of IFAC’s boards and committees for terms commencing in 2010. All nominations must be submitted by April 15, 2009.

This guide provides information about IFAC’s nominations process, including how to assess the needs of each board and committee, how to prequalify prospective candidates, and how to prioritize the skills, strengths and attributes of the candidates.

- Candidate Information System
IFAC member bodies, members of the Forum of Firms and, in certain instances, members of the public, may use the Candidate Information System to electronically submit nominees for IFAC boards and committees.
- Candidate Qualifications
A candidate for an IFAC board or committee will possess significant experience and expertise in the area of focus of the board or committee. In addition, the candidate will be expected to act in the public interest and in the common interest of the worldwide accountancy profession.
